Effective August 6, 2021, the Master of Public Health program is now part of the newly established School of Interdisciplinary Health (SIH), within the College of Health Professions. The School combined three departments into one unit: Departments of Allied Health Sciences, Diagnostic and Treatment Sciences, and Public Health. SIH currently houses 4 masters programs and 9 undergraduate programs and is led by Dr. Randy Wyble, School Director.

Welcome to the School of Interdisciplinary Health's Public Health program at Grand Valley State University. Public Health professionals promote good health and prevent disease within communities. Grand Valley prepares students through our new and emerging programs, and uses collaborative partnerships to meet diverse community health needs through educating future leaders, and promoting social justice and excellence in practice.

GVSU undergraduate students who want to learn more about public health can take PH 222 - Public Health Concepts (3 credits). PH 222 is offered every semester and taught by our MPH Faculty.

Qualified undergraduates may be admitted and obtain both the B.S. in allied health sciences (AHS) and MPH within an accelerated time frame. Learn more about the Combined AHS/MPH degree. Combined degree options are also available for students in Exercise Science.

Public Health Program News
We are thrilled to officially announce a new partnership between GVSU's Master of Public Health program and Lake Superior State University! Students in LSSU's College of Health and Behavior will now have the opportunity to be directly admitted into our MPH program. This is the second such MPH admissions partnership, following an agreement finalized in 2021 with Northern Michigan University. Read more about the partnership agreement on GVNext.
Students and faculty from GVSU's Master of Public Health teamed up with Colgate's Bright Smiles, Bright Future program to bring dental hygiene and health education to elementary students in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend an MPH Information Event.

Applicants are now able to select from one of two program format options: Traditional (In-Seat) Program or Hybrid Program .
The hybrid program is designed primarily for the adult learner and nontraditional student wishing to pursue an MPH degree with either an Epidemiology or a Health Promotion emphasis. Hybrid courses meet only one weekend (Saturday, or Friday night + Saturday) each semester at Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The hybrid format provides the same high-quality, graduate education as the traditional MPH program and is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) .

(7/1/19) The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) Board of Councilors acted at its June 13-15, 2019 meeting to accredit the Master of Public Health program at GVSU for a five-year term. Based on CEPH procedures and the documentation submitted, the program's initial accreditation date is recorded as June 18, 2016. The accreditation term extends until July 1, 2024, pending the program's continued documentation of compliance through annual reporting, and any other reporting required by the Council.
